Family on camping trip gets pulled over and cuffed — yet another case of excessive police force [EDITORIAL]Nominee

August 21st, 2010 by Doug Lansky

Titanic Editorial: You can easily forgive the police for a case of mistaken identity when they pulled over a white mini van that had plates that matched a stolen vehicle, but once the family started emerging from the van, it seemed pretty obvious (even from the helicopter camera far above) that this was not a bunch of crazy thieves that need to be spread out in a prone position on the highway with their hands cuffed. Whatever happened to chatting with the driver for a few minutes, letting him produce some papers.  It certainly seemed that with no less than 5 police vehicles and a helicopter, there was enough security around to walk up to the window and ask for a driver’s license and registration. This just seems to be part of an emerging body of video footage that includes a lot of pointless tasering and rough treatment by police. Clearly, America has a serious civility issue within segments of the police force.

Amazing that they can spend that kind of resources on a possible stolen car! Not eaven when there’s a bank robbery in Sweden do you see this many police cars. And how scared the police are, whats wrong with just stopping the car and maybe… ask them. But I guess the murder rate is about 1000 times bigger then in the rest of the western world also so they doesn’t take any chances.

I seriously wonder HOW the pick out possible policeofficers to the police academy?
Round up every redneck they can find, shave them, clean them and put an uniform on them??

Like Erik wrote of course the violent crimerate is much higher in the states, but hey!
Maybe if they got some law against firearms…?

    Guys
Why is it that in the USA, as soon as you put a uniform onto working class people they seem to think they are god? I can’t beleive the behaviour of security, police and other uniformed morons in that country, and having been there a few times it puts me off going again.

Yup that’s why Calif is broke – 7 Police cars, 1 Helicopter and 10 Cops to stop and harass a family on vacation plus create a traffic jam. CHP needs administer IQ tests before hiring their High Paid Cops. Good reason to stay away from CA

Does the cop directly harass a family without a thorough investigation. Do they know that there are kids inside that car who will be traumatized with what happened?
