I have to disagree about Pisa. For my money, there’s three interesting buildings on the Field of Miracles. As for the tower, I don’t think there’s any tower in Italy that’s as few steps to climb for as much fun. It leans!

If any town in Italy is a one-trick pony how about Sienna, where the major tourist attraction is a pretty place to sit? Don’t get me wrong, it’s a charming town. And Pisa does seem a bit more rough-edged. So all the guidebooks say to stay in Sienna and make Pisa a day-trip. I don’t think the Pisans mind, really. The Siennese may be richer as a result, but the Pisans are probably happier.
